Kannapolis, on both the Cabarrus and Rowan sides

Trusted Plumber in Kannapolis, NC

A lot of Kannapolis was built as mill housing, and plenty of those homes still have older drain lines and water heaters past their prime. We're based next door in China Grove, so a slow drain or a cold shower in Kannapolis is a short drive for us, not a dispatch from Charlotte.

Comprehensive Plumbing Services in the Kannapolis Area

Kannapolis grew up around Cannon Mills, and much of the older town was company housing rented to mill workers. When those houses were sold to the families living in them in the 1980s, every one started down its own path. One still has its original drain line to the street, the next had a section replaced after a backup, the one after that added a bathroom tied into old pipe. Two houses that look alike from the sidewalk can have very different plumbing underneath.

That's why we look at what's actually there before we quote. Older homes here often still have galvanized supply lines or cast iron drains, and patching one corroded section can just move the problem a few feet. Newer homes, built as the town has grown around the NC Research Campus on the old mill site, usually need one worn-out part replaced, and the fix is smaller than the homeowner expects.

Drains are a big share of our Kannapolis work. We clear them with cable machines and a hydro jetter, and run a sewer camera when the job calls for it, so you know what's in the line before anyone talks about digging. Water heaters are the other common call: we'll tell you honestly whether yours needs a repair, a straight tank replacement, or whether tankless makes sense, and installed prices for both are on our pricing page.

There are also jobs we don't do: commercial work, trenchless sewer repair, and gas fireplaces. We'd rather tell you that up front.

Energy-Efficient Tankless Water Heater Installations

A lot of Kannapolis homes are still running an aging tank that keeps 40 or 50 gallons hot around the clock whether anyone needs it or not. A tankless unit heats water as you use it, so there's no cold shower for the last person in line and one less bulky tank in the closet or garage.

It isn't the right answer for every house. Gas supply, the venting route, and how much hot water your household uses at once all decide it, and in some smaller mill-era homes a new tank is the better call. We'll walk you through both. Our breakdown of tankless versus tank cost of ownership runs the twenty-year numbers, and yearly tankless maintenance covers how to keep a unit running for the long haul.

Outside City Limits? You Might Be on a Well

Most of Kannapolis runs on city water, but homes outside city limits, especially out toward Enochville and the rural Rowan County edge, often have a private well. A well brings its own set of problems. Our owner, Jonathan Johns, holds a Well Seal Certification that covers that work, so you're not calling one company for the well and another for the plumbing. If you're wondering what's in the water, start with a test through the Cabarrus or Rowan County health department, depending on which side of the line you live on, before anyone sells you equipment.

Why Kannapolis Homeowners Trust Macaw Plumbing & Tankless

Macaw is a family business based in China Grove, right next door. The name MACAW is our five kids' initials, and a lot of our customers are people we see around Kannapolis and China Grove. Our work carries the family name, and we hold ourselves to that.

The person who quotes the job is the person who does it. You get an honest look at what's wrong, your realistic options, and a clear price before any work starts. Sometimes that's a simple repair, and we'll say so.

You don't have to take our word for the credentials. The North Carolina State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors keeps a public license lookup, and we'd encourage you to check us and anyone else you're considering.

And every month, through our Serving Hands program, we do a plumbing repair at no charge for a family who can't afford one.

What Our Customers Say

Reviews from homeowners we've worked for, word for word from our Google profile.

“MACAW Plumbing came out and did an inspection to let us know exactly what we needed to have done other than the leaky kitchen sink. He also found major issue with the vent on the hot water heater. He got most of the work done yesterday in the small amount of time he had and will be coming back next week! We are very happy with them! Highly recommend them!”
Katelyn Conklin, Google review, February 2026
“Jon, a highly skilled plumber, he left us thoroughly impressed with his expert work during his first visit. We were so pleased that we didn't hesitate to have him again. He keeps us informed about the scheduling process. Jon is an exceptional and professional plumber.”
Janelle Danchenka, Google review, January 2026
“John was prompt, friendly and professional. He gave us an honest and logical assessment of our issues, followed by fair, reasonable repair rates. Will definitely be using Macaw in the future. Thanks John.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Call (704) 798-2659
My older Kannapolis house keeps getting the same drain clog. Why?

In older homes, a clog that keeps coming back usually points to the line itself: scale inside old cast iron, roots at a joint, or a spot where old pipe meets a newer repair. We clear the line first, and if it keeps acting up, we run a camera so you know what's causing it before anyone talks about replacing pipe.

Should I repair or replace my water heater?

It depends on the age and what's wrong. A tank under about ten years old with a bad element or thermostat is usually worth repairing. Past ten to fifteen years, or if water is seeping from the tank itself, replacement is almost always the better money. We'll tell you which one you're looking at before you spend anything beyond the $94 service call, and that fee is waived if the work goes ahead.

Do you work on the Rowan County side of Kannapolis?

Yes. Kannapolis spans Cabarrus and Rowan counties, and we work on both sides of the line, in both the 28081 and 28083 ZIP codes. We're based in China Grove, just north of town, so Kannapolis is close to home for us.

Are you available for emergencies at night or on weekends?

Within limits, and we'd rather be straight about them. We're on call Monday through Friday from 5 to 10 PM and Saturday from 8 AM to 10 PM. We do not run overnight or Sunday service, and we don't advertise 24/7 availability we can't back up.
