China Grove and south Rowan County
China Grove is home. Macaw Plumbing & Tankless is based here and our family lives here, so when you call, you're calling a neighbor, not a dispatcher in Charlotte.

From the older homes near Main Street to the newer subdivisions and the country houses on wells across south Rowan County, these are the calls China Grove homeowners make most. Our team handles the scheduling, so you always know when we're coming.
Slow kitchen lines, roots in older clay sewer pipe, and when a cable, the hydro jetter, or a camera is the right tool.
Installed prices for a tank replacement or a tankless upgrade, posted before anyone comes out. $94 service call, waived when the work goes ahead.
Everything else we handle in China Grove
China Grove doesn't have one kind of house. Near downtown you'll find older homes where the original galvanized or cast iron is still in the walls or under the crawlspace. Out past town limits, a lot of homes run on a private well and a septic tank. And the newer neighborhoods are reaching the age where builder-installed water heaters, shutoffs, and supply lines start to give out.
Each of those needs a different first look. In an older home, we check what the pipe is made of before we quote a repair, because patching one section of corroded line can just move the leak a few feet. In a newer one, the problem is usually a single part that wore out, and the fix is smaller than the homeowner expects.
Water heaters are the call we get most in town. Many China Grove tanks are past the ten-to-fifteen-year mark, and we'll tell you honestly whether yours needs a repair, a straight tank replacement, or whether tankless makes sense for your house. Installed prices for both are on our pricing page.
Drains are the other half of the work now. We clear them with cable machines and a hydro jetter, and run a sewer camera when the job calls for it, so you know what's in the line before anyone talks about digging. There are also jobs we don't do: commercial work, trenchless sewer repair, and gas fireplaces. We'd rather tell you that up front.

Tankless upgrades are one of the most common conversations we have in China Grove. A tankless unit heats water as you use it, so there's no tank keeping 50 gallons hot all day, no cold shower for the last person in line, and one less bulky tank in the garage or utility room.
It isn't the right answer for every house. Gas supply, the venting route, and how much hot water your household uses at once all decide it, and sometimes a new tank is the better call. We'll walk you through both. Our breakdown of tankless versus tank cost of ownership runs the twenty-year numbers, and yearly tankless maintenance covers how to keep a unit running for the long haul.
Plenty of homes around China Grove, Landis, and Rockwell run on a private well instead of town water, and a well brings its own set of problems. Our owner, Jonathan Johns, holds a Well Seal Certification that covers that work, so you're not calling one company for the well and another for the plumbing. If you're wondering what's in the water, start with a test through the Rowan County health department before anyone sells you equipment.
What we handle on a well
Macaw was built in China Grove. The name is our five kids' initials, and we run into our customers at church, at school events, and around town. Our work carries the family name in the community we live in, and we hold ourselves to that.
You don't have to take our word for the credentials. The North Carolina State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors keeps a public license lookup, and we'd encourage you to check us and anyone else you're considering.
We're also honest about our limits. We aren't a 24-hour operation, and we'd rather say so plainly than promise round-the-clock service and leave you on hold at two in the morning.
And every month, through our Serving Hands program, we do a plumbing repair free of charge for a family who can't afford one. It started right here at home.

China Grove is home base, and serving our own town well is the foundation everything else is built on. We're regularly in Landis, Faith, Rockwell, and Salisbury across Rowan County, south into Kannapolis and Concord, and north toward Mooresville. If you're not sure your address is in our area, call. There's a good chance we're already nearby.

Yes. Macaw is based in China Grove and our family lives here. That's why China Grove calls are usually the easiest for us to fit in, and why we can often give you a tighter arrival window than towns on the edge of our area.
It depends on the age and what's wrong. A tank under about ten years old with a bad element or thermostat is usually worth repairing. Past ten to fifteen years, or if the tank itself is leaking, replacement is almost always the better money. We'll tell you which one you're looking at before you spend anything beyond the $94 service call, and that fee is waived if the work goes ahead.
Within limits, and we'd rather be straight about them. We're on call Monday through Friday from 5 to 10 PM and Saturday from 8 AM to 10 PM. We do not run overnight or Sunday service, and we don't advertise 24/7 availability we can't back up.
Yes. Our owner, Jonathan Johns, holds a Well Seal Certification in addition to his P1 Unlimited plumbing license, so we work on the well pump, the pressure tank and switch, and the plumbing into the house. For questions about what's in the water, start with a test through the Rowan County health department.
